About Me!

My name is Jess and I’m 32. I have two kids, five cats, one dog, a homebrewer husband, and a wool addiction. The wool addiction is fostered by the yarn shop less than 2 blocks from my home, where they know me by name and wonder where I am when I don’t visit for a while. The adjacent coffee shop is a favorite hangout as well.

I lean leftward in my politics, I’m pro-choice, an atheist, and not as green as I think I should be. I use my bike as my primary mode of transportation in the warmer months but I’m a bit much of a wuss for winter biking. We have a pretty good-sized garden plot, from which I’m hoping to feed the family and stock the freezer this summer. We also participate in a CSA and buy our meat directly from the farmer. I love being able to source a lot of locally-grown food for my family!

I learned to knit when I was in elementary school but didn’t go anywhere with it. I taught myself to crochet when I was older, maybe in middle school or maybe high school, and did that for several years until I developed a nice case of tendinitis. That went away when I stopped baking and cooking for a living, but the crocheting aggravated it still (and still does years later). I spotted a coworker knitting in her cube at my last job and stopped off at the yarn shop on my way home from work that day. Bought circular needles, yarn, and a pattern, and the rest is history!

Now I try to do a good amount of handspinning as part of my fibery pursuits and my spinning fiber stash definitely rivals the size of my yarn stash! And then there’s the stash of handspun yarn… I use a Majacraft Suzie wheel, which I love.
